U-M IOE Professor Mark Van Oyen has been elected 2019 Vice President and 2020 President of the INFORMS Health Applications Society.
Mark Van Oyen, U-M Industrial and Operations Engineering (IOE) professor, has been elected 2019 Vice President and 2020 President of the INFORMS Health Applications Society (HAS).
HAS plays a unique and critical role by developing powerful design and analysis methods of operations research, industrial and operations engineering, and management science to improve healthcare in areas such as care delivery, decision making, and process improvement.
“It is an exciting time to help lead HAS and nurture its depth and diversity, which extends to theory and applications for healthcare delivery/operations, medical decision making, and disease treatment,” said Van Oyen. “We will be working with relevant journals to improve peer reviewing and publication processes. Machine learning and big data solutions are emerging areas that I am eager to help our society navigate.”
Van Oyen joined IOE in 2005. His current research emphasizes healthcare operations and medical decision making. His interests include system modeling, prediction and control/optimization methods, including the integration of machine learning with decision and control.
Mariel Lavieri, associate professor in IOE, will return as Treasurer for HAS.
