U-M Industrial and Operations Engineering (IOE) professor, Judy Jin, and lecturer Oleg Gusikhin have both been elected as 2020 INFORMS fellows.
Each year, INFORMS elects several fellows as a means of recognizing their exceptional accomplishments and the contributions they have made to the advancement of operations research and the management sciences.
Jin’s primary research interests are in data fusion and analytics in quality engineering with primary applications in manufacturing. Her research targets in-situ quality control for defect prevention during manufacturing by optimizing operations and maintenance decisions concurrently. Her methodologies are based on the fusion of engineering models with advanced statistics, machine learning, reliability, and system optimization. Her research was recognized by numerous awards including the NSF PECASE and CAREER Awards, and 14 Best Paper Awards. She served as vice president of International Activities for INFORMS and chair for INFORMS Quality, Statistics and Reliability section.
Gusikhin is a technical leader at the Ford Motor Company in addition to his role as a U-M IOE lecturer. His research interests include production scheduling, supply chain management, inventory control, assembly line balancing, connected vehicle analytics, and AI/ML applications in manufacturing and automotive systems.
“I am extremely honored to be named as an INFORMS Fellow for my industrial practice and innovation in analytics, in particular for my work at Ford Motor Company,” said Gusikhin. “This recognition further encourages me to not only continue to leverage OR/MS in addressing challenging real-world problems, but also to share my experiences with the community of analytics professionals.”
The newly elected fellows, including Judy and Oleg, will be honored this fall at a virtual induction ceremony.
INFORMS is the world’s largest professional association dedicated to promoting the best practices and advances in operations research, management science and analytics to ultimately improve operational processes, decision-making and outcomes.
Twelve other U-M IOE faculty members have previously been recognized as INFORMS fellows.
