IOE hosts its annual Senior Design Expo

The IOE Senior Design Expo highlights the research of its graduating seniors before they go off into the world to solve real world problems in industrial engineering and operations research.

The University of Michigan Industrial and Operations (U-M IOE) Department hosted its first-ever Senior Design Expo in the U-M College of Engineering Lurie Building to highlight the research of its senior students before they graduate.

The Senior Design Expo featured 20 student projects that were conducted for corporations such as Ford, Vogue Furniture, Neapco, Mayo Clinic, Hyundai, Gemline, General Motors, DTE and many more. Each group spent their semester working with the companies to solve real-world problems.

“I heard only good things from every person who I talked to the teams throughout the day so I want to express my congratulations to all of our senior design students,” said U-M IOE Department Chair, Julie Ivy. “Now as our students walk away from us they will have concrete examples to share of what they learned and did here.”

The student research projects ranged from optimizing hiring and purchase schedules, using AI as a summarization tool for air traffic control managers, optimizing in-home infusion selection for cancer patients and more.
