The IOE department recently published a compilation of videos on its YouTube channel, to help prospective students better understand industrial engineering (IE) graduate programs and tips for success when applying to graduate school.

The videos were initially shared with registered participants who attended the IOE virtual graduate webinar in November 2021, which was an online version of an in-person workshop offered in October, 2021. The list includes recordings from the IOE Department Chair (Prof. Brian Denton), Associate Chair of Graduate Studies (Prof. Marina Epelman), and the Chair of Graduate Recruitment and Admissions (Prof. Siqian Shen), who shared their perspectives about graduate programs in IOE.

“We’re happy to be able to open access to the advice we offer at our invited workshops to all students interested in learning about graduate programs in industrial engineering,” said Siqian Shen. “The more we can help spread the word about IE programs to students in STEM fields, the better,” said Shen, who leads some of the department efforts to encourage students from underrepresented groups, including women and first-generation graduate students.

The compilation includes recordings from faculty members who provide overviews about studies in areas such as Data Analytics, Human Systems Integration, Operations Research, Healthcare, Business Operations, and more. Graduate students share their perspective on graduate student life in Ann Arbor. The compilation also covers IOE-affiliated centers and programs, including the Center for Ergonomics, the Center for Healthcare Engineering and Patient Safety (CHEPS), and the Tauber Institute for Global Operations.

“The release of these videos is another step forward in our department’s initiative to broaden participation in industrial engineering by helping students in STEM fields understand the career opportunities that graduate school provides,” said Department Chair, Brian Denton. “Our January 15 deadline for master’s applications is coming up and we want to raise awareness of all that graduate school has to offer, and help level the playing field when it comes to writing winning applications.”
