The Department of Industrial and Operations Engineering (IOE) at the University of Michigan (U-M) welcomes applications for faculty positions at all ranks (assistant, associate, and full professor) for an appointment beginning September 2025.
Our multidisciplinary department integrates theoretical, methodological, and applied research interests. We are seeking individuals who are dedicated to excellence in both graduate and undergraduate education, capable of establishing independent, externally-funded research programs in their fields of expertise, and who embrace the global outlook, leadership focus, and service commitment that are fundamental to the culture of Michigan Engineering

Qualifications
You have a Ph.D. and show a commitment to high-quality research and evidence of teaching potential. You are dedicated to excellence in graduate and undergraduate education; will develop impactful, productive, and innovative research programs; and will contribute to the department’s goal of addressing systemic racism and sexism by engaging actively in our culture of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).
We welcome candidates from all areas related to Industrial and Operations Engineering, including Operations Research (including Stochastic Systems and Simulation), Human System Integration, Data and Decision Analytics, Artificial Intelligence, and related disciplines. Our department’s application areas include energy & sustainability, health & human safety, manufacturing, mobility & transportation, operations management, public policy, and robotics.
In addition to the IOE faculty positions, with support from the National Institutes for Health (NIH), U-M launched the Michigan Program for Advancing Cultural Transformation (M-PACT) to achieve greater inclusive excellence in the biomedical and health sciences at U-M and beyond. For candidates with prior teaching experience, please provide (6) a summary of course (teaching) evaluations.
