Financial aid

At the University of Michigan Department of Industrial and Operations Engineering (U-M IOE), we’re committed to making your college journey affordable and accessible. Explore the financial aid resources below, or reach out to a graduate advisor at gradadmissions@umich.edu to talk about your options.

The University of Michigan’s Office of Financial Aid (OFA) is a valuable resource for all U-M students. The OFA website has information regarding the following:

Partial and full fellowships are available to select U.S. Citizens and Permanent Residents through U-M IOE. You will automatically be considered for a U-M IOE fellowship when you submit your application to any of our graduate degree programs.

The Occupational Safety Engineering (OSE) and Ergonomics program at U-M IOE provides fellowships to select eligible students. To indicate interest in a fellowship from the Occupational Safety Engineering and Ergonomics program, select “Health & Human Safety” on the U-M IOE master’s application. Interested applicants should include relevant experiences within Occupational Health Safety and Ergonomics in their personal statement and transcript. Fellowship recipients will be notified on a rolling basis.

On-campus employment opportunities can be found through the U-M Student Employment Office or the U-M website for On-campus Employment for F-1/J-1 Students.

The U-M library guide to graduate funding is a comprehensive place for U-M students to find information about scholarships, fellowships and research grants to help fund their education.

The optional U-M payment plan allows anticipated educational expenses for the fall or winter term to be made over five payments. The payment plan is an alternative option to the normal U-M payment schedule. Students and authorized family members may enroll in the payment plan through Wolverine Access. For more details on eligibility, billing, estimating expenses and more visit the U-M payment plan homepage.

Fill out a free FAFSA application to be considered for Federal Direct Loans. You must meet the direct loan requirements to be considered.

Private student loans are offered through a variety of banks and other lenders. Students looking for private loans must apply separately from their financial aid application through an individual lender. Visit the financial aid private education loans page for more information.
