Biography
Jionghua (Judy) Jin is a professor in the Department of Industrial and Operations Engineering and the Director of Manufacturing Program of Integrative Systems and Design Division at the University of Michigan. Her research interests are in data fusion and analytics in quality engineering with primary applications in manufacturing. Her research targets in-situ quality control for defect prevention by integrating design and manufacturing through optimizing operations and maintenance decisions concurrently. Her methodologies are based on the fusion of engineering models with advanced statistics, machine learning, reliability, system control, and optimization. She has served as PI and co-PI for more than $20 million in research grants, funded by National Science Foundation (NSF), National Institutes of Health (NIH), US-Army, Department of Energy, Department of Transportation, and various industrial companies including GM, Ford, Fiat-Chrysler, Honda, OGT, Samsung, Global Solar Energy, etc. Her research has been implemented in various manufacturing industries including metal forming (stamping, forging, casting, rolling, and seamless tubes), automotive, electronics, solar energy systems, etc., which generate significant economic and social impacts.
Dr. Jin is currently serving as the Editor of IISE Transactions on Data Science, Quality and Reliability (DSQR) and an Editorial Advisory Board member of Journal of Industrial and Production Engineering. She served as the Department Editor of IISE-QRE and an Associate Editor for Technometrics (2009–2012), Journal of Quality Technology (2007–2009), and International Journal of Flexible Manufacturing Systems (2005–2008). She served as Vice President of INFORMS for International Activities (2010–2013), President-Elect (2007) & President (2008) for IISE-Quality Control and Reliability Engineering (QCRE) Division, and Chair-Elect (2006) & Chair (2007) for INFORMS-Quality and Reliability subdivision.
Dr. Jin has received numerous awards including the Presidential Award (NSF-PECASE) in 2004; NSF-CAREER Award in 2002, Forging Achievement Award from Forging Industry Educational and Research Foundation in 2007, and sixteen (16) Best Paper Awards from IISE Transactions, ASME-MSEC, ASME-IMECE, IE and INFORMS annual conferences, etc. She is an elected Fellow of Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS), Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineering (IISE), American Society of Mechanical Engineering (ASME), and International Statistical Institute (ISI).
